James whiskey cocktail bar opens near Boise State

If you fancy a Weller on the rocks bourbon or a creative cocktail, a new bar wants to serve you a good one.

The James, a whiskey and cocktail bar, started serving alcohol this week. Located above Crave Delivery, 1030 S. Broadway Ave., the second-floor bar features a rooftop terrace with views of nearby Albertsons Stadium.

“Join us for a cocktail party in a chic and vibrant environment reminiscent of the roaring 1920s,” The James nods to their website. “James’s mission is to bring quality mixology, hospitality and good times….”

Former Boise State football player Daryn Colledge is part owner – and the face of the place, manager Chris Mitchell said. Colledge won a Super Bowl with the Green Bay Packers in 2011 as an offensive goaltender. So The James is hoping to be a BSU game day destination, Mitchell said. There are five televisions.

The idea is to seduce more than fans of the Broncos, since the bar is open from 3 p.m. to midnight from Tuesday to Sunday.

With house and classic cocktails around $ 12- $ 14, The James has a capacity of around 50 inside. There is room for around 80 others outside.

As winter approaches, most customers are unlikely to socialize outside right away. The James offers a variety of liquors, but whiskey is the star. The bar opened with a selection of 35 to 40 different kinds, said Mitchell, “and I’m building the collection from there. Not to mention a bunch of other more boutique stuff.

Not that The James is too high end or trendy for its own good. Serving beer and wine (but no alcohol yet) during the soft-open mode for the past few weeks, Mitchell has watched patrons bounce between his spot and Suds Tavern next door, or even the End Zone further in. the street.

“I see that as a kind of advantage,” he said of having the two college bars nearby. “There is definitely a transfer between the two.”
